We’re Powered by the Sun

One goal of renovating the Carbondale Elementary School into the Third Street Center as to make the building much more resource efficient. The addition of skylight, solar tubes, efficient light fixture, and two 50 kW solar arrays has lowered electrical demand while turning Third Street Center into a mini renewable energy power plant. Today, Third Street Center generates more energy from solar that it uses in a year.

Your can see out energy use and generation on the Garfield Clean Energy Building Navigator.  We are one of several dozen buildings in the region that the Building Navigator tracks for energy use.  We use it daily to understand what is working well in our active energy management efforts – and what we can improve upon.

We are working on ways to bring the same tracking and reporting found on the Building Navigator to other resource areas, such as water and material waste. Stay tuned!
