Can always be reimagined

History

The Third Street Center project was a joint effort between the Town of Carbondale, the Manaus Fund, the Roaring Fork Community Development Corporation, the Sustainability Center of the Rockies, and Alpine Bank to renovate the old Carbondale Elementary School into a green facility that maintains affordable space for community and regional non-profit organizations. The project team used the Living Building Challenge, which exceeds LEED’s highest standards, as a template to guide all design decisions, creating a new, vibrant community center that educates users and  visitors about sustainable design techniques.

The mission of the Third Street Center is to promote community and sustainability through partnerships, programs, and a multi-tenant, mixed-use facility that models community sustainability in design and practice. By bringing together community organizations under one roof, the Third Street Center is a catalyst for community development, environmental awareness, artistic expression, social service, health and wellness, and inventive enterprise.
