The TSC Solar Installation Team

One of the Third Street Centers critical roles in the community is to be an example of commercial and municipal energy efficiency and production.

You can view the real time energy usage data collected by CLEER (a Third Street Tenant) through it’s Building Energy Navigator, but a few highlights of note:

  • Since the Building Energy Navigator was installed in 2011, Third Street Center energy use per square foot has decreased each year.
  • With the installation of an additional array of solar panels in late 2013, Third Street Center covered 113% of its electrical energy needs from solar over the course of 2014.

What’s Next on the Energy Front?

We are working to expand the solar electricity production to offset our natural gas use to heat the building during the winter and to generate more electricity to support the Carbondale Net Zero District effort.

We are currently working to secure the funding to install battery storage capacity and solar panel canopies over our parking and on the east and south sides of the facility (see image).
